Safeguarding and images

These are somebody’s children.

This site is full of photographs of students at the Asha school. That is a responsibility, not a content strategy, and this page sets out how we handle it.

We do not run the school

The Asha Vidhyashram School is operated by HOPE worldwide Nepal, and its staff are responsible for the children in their care. Reddy2Help funds and supports the school. Anyone with a concern about a child’s welfare should raise it with the school, and we will help make that connection if it is easier to start with us.

How we photograph

We photograph children only with the agreement of the school that looks after them, and we stop when a child, a parent or a member of staff asks us to. Nobody is posed for a picture they did not want to be in. A child who does not want to be photographed is not photographed, and that decision does not need to be explained to us.

What we will not publish

We hold to four rules, and every photograph on this site already follows them.

  • No child is named. Not in the caption, not in the alt text, not in the file name. The only people named anywhere on this site are adults who agreed to be.
  • No child is identified to a place they can be found alone. We name the school, which is a public institution with a public address, and nothing about where any child lives.
  • No contact details, family circumstances or medical information belonging to a child appear here, in a newsletter, or in anything we send a donor.
  • No image is used to imply a child is destitute in exchange for a donation. The students at Asha are photographed doing what they were doing, which is mostly schoolwork.

Taking a photograph down

If you are a parent or guardian and you want a picture of your child removed from this site, email admin@reddy2help.org and describe which one. We take it down, and we do not ask you to justify the request. You can also go through the school if that is easier, and the request reaches us the same way.

The same applies to any adult pictured here.

Visitors

People who visit the school through Reddy2Help are there as guests of HOPE worldwide Nepal and follow its rules while on site, including never being alone with a child. Volunteering with us from abroad is remote work and involves no contact with students.

Raising a concern

Write to admin@reddy2help.org, marked for the attention of the founder. A concern about a child’s immediate safety belongs with the school and the local authorities first, and with us straight afterwards.
